First and foremost, MCTs are a dietary supplement, not a magic bullet, a replacement for medication or a cure for any disease however they have been shown to be useful alongside medication in a number of cases.
They will not do all the work for you and you will need to take the first steps towards improving your weight, health and fitness. What MCTs are reported to do is help make subsequent steps that much easier.
When you go into battle you want to have the right ammunition. Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) are that ammunition – a unique form of dietary fat assisting in with a wide range of positive health benefits to keep you fighting fit.
Although this is not entirely new on the market, it has the potential to be an essential addition to your diet for survival in modern times.
Medium Chain Triglycerides are the good stuff that is left behind when the short chain fats and long chain fats have been removed from coconut or palm kernel oil. This means they have less or more carbon atoms and Battle Brew MCT oil is only a carbon 8 and 10 carbon fatty acid ester. So they are absorbed and metabolised quicker.
As with any ammunition it needs to be used correctly for the best effect. And rookies should take it slow until they are accustomed to its full arsenal. Rookies start by using ½ a tablespoon per day and increase your dosage strength slowly over several days. Too much MCT, especially if consumed on an empty stomach, can adversely affect your battle readiness: think diarrhoea and stomach ache. 1-3 tablespoons per day is recommended for seasoned veterans.
It should also be noted that your body needs a variety of fats and MCTs should therefore not make up more than 45% of your daily fat intake.
Rapid Fire Benefits of MCTs
- Fuel physical exertion
- High energy density
- Rapid rate of absorption
- Quick metabolic conversion into cellular energy
- Quickly mobilised in the post-exercise recovery phase to rebuild muscles and prevent breakdown of proteins
Break through the energy barrier
More energy, fewer calories, isn’t that what we all want? Well that’s exactly what MCTs give you. They provide about 10% fewer calories than Long Chain Triglycerides. These fats are very efficient in converting to fuel and are available for almost immediate use by our organs and muscles because they are more rapidly absorbed by the body.
Word from the lab: The increased energy you get from MCTs is attributed to the rapid formation of ketones. MCTs promote the development of ketones which are used by the brain for energy.
If you need more energy either due to illness or following surgery, because you want to perform better and counteract the decreased energy that comes with aging, MCT should be your weapon of choice.
All day, all activity endurance
Research says MCTs can increase physical endurance for high intensity exercise. We say “high intensity? What’s high intensity? ”
The lab rats say . . .
Researchers have noted in studies with mice that the muscles of MCT-fed mice produced higher levels of key metabolic enzymes (3-oxo acid CoA-transferase, citrate synthase and malate dehydrogenase if you must know). These are the enzymes involved in the Kreb’s cycle, the body’s primary energy production mechanism. These mice also burned fat at a higher rate to enhance cellular energy production.
Become a leaner, but not necessarily meaner, fighting machine – MCTs offer a triple approach to weight loss
- MCTs have a lower calorie content than other fats
- They are not stored as fat deposits in the body as readily as LCTs are
- And they enhance thermogenesis (fat burning) to boost your metabolism and burn even more calories
Word from the lab: In one study MCT-fed rats lost significant weight even though they consumed the same amount of calories as a control group of lard-fed rats. The researchers, Kaunitz and Colleagues, also described the MCT-fed rats as having an “excellenct survival rate.”
Other studies have shown decreased weight gains and fat content, in some cases up to 23% less, in MCT-fed animals as compared to those on LCT rich diets.
From the cage wheel to our endless treadmill of struggling with weight issues, studies have shown post-meal thermogenesis (fat burning) to be more active after meals containing MCTs. A study of obese women on a restricted diet showed improvement in insulin profiles when MCTs made up 24% of total calories consumed. Other studies confirmed the energy boosting effects of MCTs and increase in fatty acid metabolism which helps reduce fat deposits making MCTs a valuable asset in weight loss programmes.
Control that appetite soldier
MCTs suppress appetite without the need for militant discipline. That means just by being on a high MCT diet your caloric consumption would be much lower. Researchers of one study noted that substituting MCTs for other fats “can limit the excess energy intakes and weight gain produced by high-fat, energy-dense diets.”
Support the fight against cardiovascular disease and diabetes
Use MCTs to supplement your arsenal in the fight against atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and even Alzheimer’s.
- MCTs have anti-coagulation effects and may lower serum cholesterol
- MCTs may reduce levels of cholesterol in the liver and other tissues
- MCTs have been reported to act as antioxidants and reduce tissue requirements for Vitamin E
- MCTs may have a slight hypoglycemic (blood-glucose lowering) effect useful for diabetics and anyone with a risk for pre-diabetes
Less time in the infirmary – MCTs may help boost immunity
MCTs have been shown to be a useful supplement in the treatment of disorders that involve damaged or impaired lipid (fat) metabolism. These are:
- obstructive jaundice
- biliary cirrhosis
- cystic fibrosis
- celiac disease
- Whipple’s disease
- Crohn’s disease
- regional enteritis
- malabsorption in neonates.
With BATTLE BREW M-C-T Oil your defences remain intact. It won’t trigger allergens in these foods: celery, cereals containing gluten, eggs, dairy, molluscs, crustaceans, fish, lupins, peanuts, sesame seeds and soya beans and their derivatives, tree nuts, mustard, wheat and sulphur dioxide.
For the little troopers
MCTs have been reported to be useful in the feeding of newborn infants to assist in their initial growth and contribute to their physiological development in fact breast milk contains high levels of MCTs.
And for anyone battling life’s knocks
Calcium and magnesium absorption may be enhanced in a diet containing MCTs and absorption of amino acids is improved. This means they may be a useful addition to the diet of anyone suffering any form of malnutrition or tissue wasting. In fact, they are often used as part of the formula in intravenous feeding following surgery or recovery from serious injuries, burns and infections.
Due to the fact that MCTs are processed by the liver and promote the production of ketones, those suffering from type I diabetes or who have liver disease or damage should consult a doctor before introducing them into their diet.
Propelling your body into high energy action
Combining BATTLE BREW MCT Oil with grass-fed butter and high-quality coffee may result in hours of energy and centimetres off your waistline when combined with clean eating and an exercise regime! For all-round conditioning use in smoothies, salad dressings and other recipes. BATTLE BREW MCT Oil is suitable to cook at temperatures under 160°C.
From the Canteen
BATTLE BREW troops start day with an energy boost in the form of a hot mug of BATTLE BREW MCT Coffee.
To make your own delicious Cup of battle Brew Coffee you will need:
- BATTLE BREW MCT Oil
- High Quality Coffee or if you don’t like coffee you can also use Tea (we recommend choosing a tea that would go well with milk)
- Unsalted Butter, preferably grass-fed butter or Ghee (The butter and Ghee are optional if you are concerned about too high fat!)
- A powerful Jug or Hand Blender. (not essential but leads to a nicer fully emulsified drink)
- Make a strong cup of coffee or tea. We recommend about 400ml and make it a little stronger than normal.
- Veterans will add up to 2 tablespoons of BATTLE BREW MCT oil to the coffee while Rookies will want to start out with about 1/2 tablespoon of oil and slowly work their way up to 1 tablespoon over the course of a week or so and then slowly up to 2 tablespoons.
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of the grass-fed unsalted butter or Ghee.
- Blend thoroughly till the butter/Ghee, coffee and oil is totally emulsified.
Drink while hot and enjoy and up front energy boost that will propel you into action and a follow through that will set you about for energy levels that will be stable all day (unless you eat High GI Carbs).
If you would like something a little more decadent, follow the above recipe but substitute 2 heaped tablespoons of pure cocoa and 400ml of boiling water in place of the tea or coffee.
It is worth remembering that 1 cup of BATTLE BREW MCT coffee provides as much, if not more energy, than a lot of breakfasts and you can add 1-2 egg yolks to make it a full meal replacement. If you get hungry during the morning have a second cup of BATTLE BREW Coffee or Tea and then eat a normal lunch.
